Sadie’s Sunning Spot

Sadie, with her black hair, soaks up the heat from the sun much faster than we wheaten Scotties do.  It’s puzzling why she likes to lie in the sun so much, but she really seems to enjoy it.  Not only does she seek out the sunny spots on our bedroom floor, but she will also lie in the grass out in our backyard and now she has a new favorite sunning spot.

When we Scotties go outside in the hot afternoon sun, Sadie now stretches out on one of the steps from our deck to the yard.  The sun may be beating down, but Sadie will be lying there, soaking up the rays.  Go figure!

Smoke Smell

Early this morning, we Scotties went out in our backyard, and the wildfire smoke smell was really intense!  Even though we are nowhere near any wildfires, the winds seem to be blowing the smell to our area from fires in western Colorado and even as far away as California.

The air looked really hazy from the smoke and the air smelled like a campfire, which it has done for awhile now, but today it was super strong and after a short stint outside, we were ready to go back inside.  Hopefully, the firefighters will make progress with fighting the wildfires soon, so that people aren’t in danger and our air quality improves.  It’s amazing just how far the effects of the fires can spread.  You don’t have to be anywhere near the fires to be affected by the air quality.

Smell the smoke!

Toss Some Milk-Bones down here!

We’ve noticed that you are standing by the treat jar and we’re hoping that you toss some Milk-Bones down here!  Don’t worry, we can guarantee that there won’t be one crumb left on the floor, because we are expert treat catchers and around here, no Milk-Bone goes uneaten!

The Three Scottie Amigos

We three Scottie amigos got dropped off at our groomer yesterday.  After several hours of bathing, brushing, and trimming, Wen picked up three nice looking, fresh-smelling dogs, who immediately crashed on the couch from all the excitement as soon as we got home.

Every other month, we Scotties get our spa treatment and Wen typically goes hiking or shopping while she waits for us to be finished.  For some reason, I think she looks forward way more to our grooming days than we Scotties do, but I suppose it’s better when we are freshly groomed than shaggy.  Thanks to Gigi, our talented groomer, once again the three amigos are looking fine!

It’s That Time Again….

This week, a lot of the local schools are back in session again, but because of the COVID-19  pandemic, things aren’t the same as usual.  Some students are back full-time, some go part-time with the balance on-line, and some are doing all on-line learning from home.

It’s easy to tell that it’s that back-to-school time again though, because the stores have seen the usual rush of school supplies flying off the shelves and we have been bombarded with back-to-school ads on TV.  None of this affects us Scotties though, because if and when Wen takes us to obedience school, we are normally about a year old and none of us is exactly a year old anymore!

Exciting Times!

Exciting times!  Not only have sports returned, but the Stanley Cup playoffs have begun and that means a lot of hockey on TV at our house.  Since we are huge Colorado Avalanche fans and the Avs are currently playing, all our good luck charms are on display.  Our Stanley Cup, big Avalanche emblem, and the home made Stanley Cup that Wen made years ago and only brings out when the Avs are in the playoffs are all part of our playoff decor and she actually made a special trip just to bring home Avs pom poms that are a playoff tradition.  So we are enjoying rooting for our favorite team on TV.  Since this is the first time that fans can’t attend the games, it’s the next best thing to being there. Go AVS!!!

The Dog Days of Summer

Here they are, the dog days of summer:  the days of the summer’s peak temperatures and humidity.  Technically, it is the time when the sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star, which is called the Dog Star, because it is part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog, but the days are most commonly associated with the late summer heat.

We Scotties are fortunate to be able to enjoy our cool house during the dog days of summer and not have to spend too much time out in the sweltering heat.  Of course, on the other hand, some may say that the dog days are every day at our house, since Wen spoils us and we don’t lack for anything!

Morning!

Who is raring to go first thing in the morning and all up in your face?  It’s Sadie, of course, and she’s there every morning with a greeting you just can’t ignore!

Morning! Your favorite black nose is here. Let’s start the day!
