Our Big Sister

Living with our big sister, Sunny, was kind of like having a mama dog for Molly and me.  Since she was already seven years old when Molly and I came along, Sunny was pretty much dismayed to have two young whippersnappers replace Kirby, with whom she had lived her whole life.  Going from a sedate lifestyle to one with two little puppies was quite a dramatic change for Sunny, but she was a champ and she showed us the ropes while she kept us in line.

Sunny was sweet and gentle with us as she tolerated our puppy antics, unless we really got in her face.  We quickly learned that she would snap at us when we invaded her personal space boundaries and that she wasn’t kidding!

Considering that she ended up living with three youngsters when Sadie showed up two years later, Sunny was the ultimate good sport and we couldn’t have had a better big sister and fearless leader of our Scottie clan.  We miss you every day, Sunny!

We Made it Through….

Well, we Scotties made it through another 4th of July with tons of fireworks going off in our neighborhood.  There were lots of pops and bangs after it got dark and Wen felt sorry for us, so she gave us a mild sedative in a treat to take the edge off the disconcerting noises of the fireworks.

With the help of the TV turned up loud, we Scotties hung out in the living room until late night when most of the fireworks had ceased and it was safe for us to go outside.  I suppose lots of people like to celebrate the 4th by shooting off fireworks and we dog families like to celebrate our country’s birthday too, but the loud noises can be concerning for us.  At least we Scotties aren’t too upset by fireworks noise and we know that we are safe inside while they are going on at their loudest noise level.  It gets really loud for a few hours each year, but as per usual, we made it through without any of us getting really nervous or hiding.  Now we can enjoy the rest of the summer in peace!

Holiday Weekend

So I hear that it’s a holiday weekend.  I suppose that we Scotties should get ready for some 4th of July festivities.   That could mean some serious good times and good food, but we also hope for the sake of dogs everywhere that loud fireworks isn’t too upsetting or traumatic for our canine buddies!

A Nice Discovery

Every once in a while, Wen comes across old photos and she recently found some of Kirby, my older brother who passed in 2013.  What a nice discovery it was, since Kirby was a very special Scottie and her favorite little buddy.  They may not be the best of Kirby’s photos, but even so, every one of them is a treasure!

Dodged Another Bullet!

Guess who ate most of the fabric cover off one of Molly’s birthday toys?  You guessed it–it was Sadie.  By the time Wen discovered Sadie chewing on the toy, she had torn the plush fabric from a squeaky ball and had already eaten a huge part of it.

Of course, Wen grabbed the fabric that was left and it went in the trash.  She hoped that Sadie would be able to pass the big wad of fabric and not end up needing a foreign body surgery and fortunately, Sadie cooperated and she passed a bunch yesterday.  Dodged another bullet!

Trottin’ Around

After several really hot days, this morning was much cooler, so what did we Scotties do? We went trottin’ around the yard in the nice cool air.  We sniffed around, did some exploring, and started to dig some holes (until we got caught).

Since it’s officially summer now, we appreciate a cool start to the day and we had a good old time outside with the squirrels and birdies, just trottin’ around the yard!

Don’t EVEN….

Sadie likes her chew toys.  No, Sadie LOVES her chew toys!  She is the one of the three of us Scotties who spends the most time chomping on hard chew toys and she goes through them like a buzz saw.

It’s not as if you can’t steal one of her toys away when she is busy chewing on it, but she would prefer that you don’t because chewing is her favorite activity and when she is doing some serious chewing, she is definitely in her happy place.  For a dog who is super good-natured and has never been snarky (not even once) though, Sadie can give you the stink eye if she thinks you are going to take her toy away, so don’t EVEN think about it!

Don’t EVEN….

Happy Father’s Day!!

It’s a special day to celebrate all our dads, whether they can be with us or not, so Happy Father’s Day and thanks for everything!  Love you!!
