Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! We hope you have a wonderful day with family and friends. Let’s have a safe and fun holiday!
Home Grooming
My sister, Sadie had to miss her grooming appointment because of her ear hematoma. Molly and I were groomed, so we were looking good, but poor Sadie was looking scruffy and she needed a bath. Since our groomer, Gigi was booked until after the holidays and Wen wasn’t comfortable taking Sadie to a different groomer, she decided that she would groom Sadie herself. She had groomed her Scotties and her Cocker Spaniel years ago and when COVID happened, she bought professional clippers in case our groomer had to close during the pandemic (which fortunately never happened).
Our house isn’t exactly set up for home grooming, but Wen set Sadie on a bathroom counter and went to work on her with her clippers and scissors until Sadie looked like a Scottie again and afterwards, Sadie got a nice warm bath in the kitchen sink. Her new hairdo wasn’t perfect like when Gigi does her, but Sadie looked pretty good for a home grooming and Wen discovered that if push came to shove, she could make us look decent until our next appointment.

Mr. June
We received our 2024 Colorado Pet Pantry calendar in the mail today and I am Mr. June! A huge thank you to all the people who donated on my behalf! Because of your generosity, we raised $1795 for Colorado pets in need!
Molly and Sadie also have their pictures in the calendar on their birthdays and there is a surprise bonus picture of Molly on the back cover, so our MacDuff family is proudly represented in the calendar. We were happy to be able to do what we could to help out such a wonderful organization!
Preferences
Here we are, Molly and me, the sleeping bookends. You will notice that we are at opposite ends of the love seat and I would never dream of resting my head on Molly like I do on Sadie, who is my snuggle buddy. Sadie and I occupy the dog bed together in front of the fireplace and we snooze together on the couch all the time. Molly, on the other hand, likes her personal space and she prefers to snooze alone.
Just like people, we Scotties have our preferences. What one of us thinks is comfy, another one of us may disagree!

Princess Molly
My sister, Molly really is a little princess. Not only is she beautiful, but she seems to know that she is a special girl. She has always claimed the couch throw pillows to sit and lay on, just as if she is on her princess throne.
The good thing is that Molly is not uppity or snooty, even though she trots around looking like a regal princess. Wen has never called her Princess Molly though—not one time. It’s nice that Molly looks like a gorgeous princess, but she doesn’t need to act like royalty. Heck, she can play rough, dig holes, and eat dirt like the rest of us!

A Cool Surprise
Wen received a phone call the other day from one of her Scottie club friends who was wondering if my picture was in an email that she had received from Up Country. Of course Wen immediately checked it out and there was her favorite photo from my Lookout Mountain photo shoot that we had done for Up Country after I won their photo contest last year! What a cool surprise!
Wen messaged Kris, the photographer who did my photo shoot and moved to Idaho shortly after with the good news and she was thrilled to see her photo in the Up Country email. She and Wen both thought that it was the best of all the photos from the shoot and they were kind of disappointed that it wasn’t used in their catalog. It looks like they were saving it to advertise their flash sale, so we were super pleased to finally see it. What a nice remembrance of our frigid experience on Lookout Mountain where we braved freezing temperatures and punishing winds to model Up Country products and take photos that turned out really well!
A Different Grooming Experience
So Molly and I went to Gigi’s to be groomed the other day, but Sadie couldn’t go because of her healing ear hematoma. Wen had called ahead of time to cancel Sadie and she found out that Gigi wasn’t able to be there for our appointments and that her older son would be doing us. What???!!!
Wen was a little concerned, so she left instructions when she dropped us off, since we would be having a different grooming experience for the first time, but even though we had a different groomer, our haircoats turned out looking good—not like Gigi had done us, but still good and we even got festive bandannas. We all breathed a sigh of relief!
A vet Visit
I got to stay home while my sisters went to the vet yesterday. Molly needed a check up and vaccinations and Sadie needed a recheck on her ear hematoma.
Evidently, Molly was a real trooper for her vaccinations and then it was Sadie’s turn. Dr. Nina removed her head bandage and although Wen thought that with all the head shaking that Sadie had been doing, her ear would have filled up with fluid again, but it was not the case. Her ear was flat!
After treating Sadie for allergies, they decided to try leaving off the bandage to see if Sadie would be more comfortable and shake her head less. She still had to wear the cone, but at least she would not be so restricted. Now, hopefully, Sadie’s ear won’t refill and Wen brought home sedatives and pain meds in case Sadie started to shake her head incessantly again. Let’s hope this works!
Poor Poor Sadie!
Sadie is really having a hard time with her ear hematoma. Not only can she not get comfortable, but she’s shaking her head incessantly and rubbing her cone on the furniture and the floor, so her ear must be filling up with fluid again to make her act this crazy.
Unfortunately, Wen couldn’t take Sadie to the vet today, but she has an appointment tomorrow and Sadie will probably need surgery. Meanwhile, Wen has to give her a sedative in order to keep her from doing way more damage. It’s better for her to be sleeping than running around shaking her head. Poor poor Sadie! Let’s hope she can get some relief!
Poor Sadie!
My sister, Sadie is having a hard time with her ear hematoma. Her head has been bandaged for over a week and she’s been wearing a cone the entire time. Wen took her to see Dr. Nina, our vet two days ago and when she looked at Sadie’s ear, it had begun to fill up with more blood and serum, due to Sadie shaking her head incessantly. She rebadged Sadie’s head again in order to try to keep her ear flat, but Sadie has been shaking her head more than ever, so last night, Wen had to give her a sedative to keep her from shaking her head and causing more damage.
If Sadie continues to shake her head, she may need surgery to repair her ear hematoma instead of just draining the fluid, which could potentially give her a cauliflower ear or an ear that might not stand up, so we’re hoping that doesn’t happen. Plus, she’d have to be be bandaged and wear the cone for many more weeks.
Poor Sadie! She’s having a hard time right now and we all wish her the best!
