Scottie Play Day

If how exhausted Sadie was when she got home from the Scottie play day was a measure of the fun she had, she must have had a super time!  The Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club annual play day had quite a few Scotties of all ages in attendance and the hosts’ huge backyard was set up with home made agility equipment and a kiddie pool for the Scotties’ enjoyment.

The Scotties played and explored the yard while the club members ate lunch and after lunch, some of the members tried to lure their Scotties through the agility course.  Wen had fun taking Sadie through the obstacles and she actually didn’t do too badly, doing her best on the jump and the weave poles.  The hosts had several special treats for the dogs and they were a big hit, as evidenced by how quickly they disappeared.

When they arrived home, Sadie headed straight for the couch, where she fell asleep for the rest of the afternoon.  Later, she woke up shortly to eat her dinner before she fell back asleep.  Evidently, a good time was had by all and the Scottie play day was a big success!

Lookin’ Up

Things are lookin’ up for Sadie.  Not only does she go visiting with Wen at the nursing home once a week, but she gets to go to a Scottie club play day today, while the rest of us Scotties who aren’t quite as sociable stay home.

Sadie has a talent for playing with other dogs without getting snarky and she seems to like all people too.  She even has shown (much like myself) that she can work in the Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club booth at Scottish festivals, meeting the public and letting everyone pet her.

Sadie has outgrown her undesirable habits in the house (with the exception of chewing the corners off couch pillows) and she has become Miss Personality, so things are definitely lookin’ up.

Wait a minute, Sadie!  Just because things are lookin” up, you don’t have to literally be lookin’ up!

Mesmerized

We Scotties were out in the backyard recently, doing our usual cruising and sniffing routine.  All of a sudden, some birds flew overhead and landed high up in the neighbor’s tree. The birds were chirping away and the next thing we knew, Sadie had jumped up on the bench on the deck and she was looking toward the birds.  Her nose was up in the air, pointing in the direction of the chirping as if she found the birds fascinating.  Sadie sat there mesmerized, listening intently for the longest time.  I guess that she found chirping birds in a tree even more interesting than dogs barking on TV!

The Birthday Present

Yesterday, Wen took Sadie and the framed picture that she had posed for to the nursing home to attend a birthday party.  Her friend, who is a resident there, was celebrating her 81st birthday and she was delighted to see Wen and especially pleased that she had brought Sadie along.

When it was time to open the presents, the framed photo of Sadie was a huge hit and at that moment, all of the frustration that went into getting Sadie to pose for the picture was totally worth it.  To see how much dogs mean to people and how a photo of a little Scottie birthday present could make someone so happy was truly special and as an added bonus, Sadie was a perfect angel at the party!

The Photography Ordeal

What started out as a fun picture-taking session at our house turned into an ordeal for Wen.  Her Scottie-loving friend who lives in a nursing home, asked for a framed picture of Sadie (her favorite visitor) to hang up in her room, so Wen thought that she could grant her wish with no problems.

To get ready to take Sadie’s picture, Wen brushed her thoroughly and then found a burgundy-colored blanket to put over the piano bench, which she positioned in our entryway, close to the front door where the light is good.  She had Sadie sit on the piano bench and then the trouble began.

Sadie didn’t want to sit still and when she finally did, she twisted her head back and forth.  Then, just as Wen would snap a picture, Sadie would put her ears down, over and over.  Wen decided to try using a squeaky toy (as professional pet photoghaphers have done) to coax Sadie’s ears up, but she had no luck, so she leaned against the front door in frustration.  It made such a strange little sound that Sadie’s ears perked straight up, so Wen leaned against the door several times until she thought she had enough photos to choose from.

The entire process took more than a half hour and Wen was pretty frazzled from frustration, but after eliminating many fuzzy shots, she had one picture of Sadie that she thought was suitable for framing and would please her friend.  Sadie, on the other hand, was not frazzled at all.  She seemed to enjoy the entire process, because she had received all kinds of special attention and that is something that Sadie absolutely loves!

No Words Necessary

Every once in a while you come across something that just hits home.  The other day, Wen saw a wood plaque that she thought had a perfect saying on it for dog lovers and she quickly grabbed it.  The saying pretty much sums up our lives and once you read it, no more words are necessary.

Annual Exam Day

What started out as a fun car ride yesterday turned out to be a trip to the vet.  Wen took Sadie and me to see our vet, Dr. Nina, because we were due for our annual exams and vaccinations.

Sunny, Molly, and I used to go along with Wen every day when she worked at the veterinary clinic, so I was used to seeing all the sights there and I was happy to see some of our old friends, whom I immediately recognized.  Sadie came along after Wen quit working there, so it was like a new experience for her, even though she had been spayed by Dr. Nina and had several prior exams there.  She was her usual goofy friendly self though and she entertained Dr. Nina and Wen’s former co-workers, who thought that she was really cute.

We both took our vaccinations like little troopers and before we knew it, we were on our way back home, where Sunny and Molly greeted us and we all settled down for a nice nap on the couch.  Yay, Sadie and I survived annual exam day for another year!

To the vet….

Three Little Wheaties

Wen has had three wheaten Scotties for many years.  She prefers to have three dogs and wheaten Scotties are her absolute favorite.  If she hadn’t felt the need to give Sadie a home, which increased our little herd to four dogs, Wen would certainly have just her normal three wheaten Scotties right now.

On a trip to Hobby Lobby yesterday, Wen was walking by the miniatures and she spotted a miniature wheaten Scottie, which was very surprising to see.  Not only was there one, but there were three and they reminded her of tiny versions of Sunny, Molly, and me, so she bought all of them.  Now, not only are there three wheaten Scotties roaming around our house, but there are also three miniature statues of us:  three little wheaties in a row!
