The Black Dog

Sadie has continued to accompany Wen on her weekly nursing home visits.  Each time that they arrive at Wen’s friend’s room, Sadie finds a comfy spot on her bed and makes herself at home, while Wen’s friend enjoys watching her antics.

On one recent visit, there was a big teddy bear on the bed and Sadie found herself a nice soft snuggle buddy, to Wen’s friend’s delight.

With all of their regular visits, Sadie has become a well-known visitor at the nursing home and as Wen carries her through the halls, you can hear residents say “There’s the black dog!”  It’s awesome that Sadie can bring cheer not only to Wen’s friend, but to lots of people, who smile as they recognize her on each visit.

Celebrating Fall

Fall is finally here and although it still feels like summer weather, you can feel the coolness at night.  The leaves are beginning to turn and Wen has started raking the leaves that the wind has blown into our backyard from the neighbor’s huge tree.  Everywhere you look there are pumpkin spice items for sale and fall decorations are popping up around the neighborhood.  It’s also football season and in a few short weeks, we’ll be seeing signs of Hallowwen on its way.

Now that fall is officially here, it’s time for us all to celebrate the season with a pumpkin spice latte—just kidding!!

Parking Lot Education

When we were on vacation in Estes Park, Wen walked Sunny and me around the grounds of our riverside hotel.  On the day that we were packing up to leave, Wen was walking us by the hotel parking lot and we saw a lady walking to her car with an off-leash Westie trailing behind her.  The lady spotted us Scotties and wouldn’t you know, she asked Wen if we were Westies, because we looked “a little different.”  Of course, having been asked the same question about all of her wheaten Scotties over the years, Wen explained that we were Scotties and as per usual, the lady said “Scotties are black!”

That comment provoked Wen to go into her speech describing the coat colors of Scotties and then she pointed out the differences between Sunny and me and the lady’s Westie, until the lady agreed that there were definite differences.  Nothing like a little parking lot dog breed education!

Do we look like Westies? No, we’re Scotties!!

All Terrier

My sister, Molly, is not only shy about meeting people, but she is also camera shy.  When Wen tries to take a picture of her, Molly won’t sit still or when she does finally sit still for a few seconds, she will put her ears back and look the other way.  It’s too bad, because Molly is the prettiest of all of Wen’s Scotties over the years and she is actually very photogenic.

I guess that it’s another case of “dogs will be dogs.”  When Wen combs and brushes out Molly’s haircoat, Molly doesn’t like it and when Wen tries to put a costume on her for a photo shoot, Molly wiggles around and she isn’t exactly what you would call cooperative.  The few really good photos of Molly have required lots of patience and persistence on Wen’s part or just plain luck in capturing her with a candid shot.

As cute as she is, Molly definitely doen’t act like a girly girl.  Maybe it’s okay that she is camera shy and that she doesn’t seem to know that she is pretty.   After all, she’s a rough and tumble Scottie girl who’s all terrier!

The Good Stuff

Sometimes, when there is a Denver Broncos game on TV, Wen fixes Mexican food.  We Scotties always line up in the kitchen, hoping that some tasty morsel might fall from the counter and end up on the floor where we could snarf it up.

It’s kind of unusual when it happens, but we Scotties can always hope.  A little bit of cheese or ground beef would really hit the spot and you never know when we could get lucky and get a taste of the good stuff!

Do I smell Mexican food? I’m ready!
