Winter Wear

What comes with a few days of cold weather?  Doggie winter wear!  Yes, we Scotties are forced to endure Wen chasing us around the house with sweaters, hats, and coats to keep us warm when we go outside.  Of course, the trick is for her to actually get the sweaters, hats, and coats on us, because our struggles are real!

In reality, we Scotties don’t walk around wearing doggie clothes in the winter, unless it is freezing cold and a blizzard outside.  Then, Wen might think about putting coats on us for an extended outside jaunt.  We do however pose for pictures every year, wearing an assortment of doggie couture, especially around the holidays, just for fun.

This week, we had a couple of cold-ish days and did the winter wear make its yearly appearance?  Yep, I rest my case!

A Weird Dream

I had a very weird dream.  I wasn’t dreaming about usual dog things, such as chasing squirrels or going for a ride.  No, it was a dream about watching TV and I was watching shows like “Barking with the Stars,” “The Real Housedogs of Orange County,”  and “Game of Bones.”  Hmmm, maybe we’ve been watching way too much TV at our house or maybe I shouldn’t have eaten that extra treat before bedtime…..

The Wrapper

There was a wrapper on the table.

My sister, Sunny’s tall and able.

She grabbed the wrapper and she ran.

Why did she do it?  ‘Cause she can!

The rest of us came to help shred it.

It smelled of food, we don’t regret it.

Wen found the pieces on the floor.

She put us out the patio door.

What happened next?  You can conjecture.

All four of us, we got a lecture.

But Wen was only slightly angry,

‘Cause we are cute and we were hangry!

I hope you liked my little fable

Of the wrapper on the table.

We Scotties briefly had a treat

But we got caught and took the heat!

That was my first attempt at verse. It could be better, not much worse!

Words We Love To Hear

Ah, yes, the sweetest words we Scotties love to hear always involve eating.  I suppose that we are food obsessed, but that’s okay.  Nothing wrong with eating!

Every time that Wen mentions that it’s time to eat or asks if we would like a treat, we are all there with rapt attention.  Heaven forbid we should miss one morsel of food and there’s no way that we’re ever going to ignore those words we love to hear!  Bring on the food!

Did you say “time to eat?”

Strike Up the Chorus!

There are certain situations that require a song from the choir.  In other words, there are situations that seem to provoke us Scotties into a howling chorus.  The first main one is when we are all in our big wire cages upstairs in the bedroom and the garage door goes up.  This is a scenario where we all start to howl because we want it to be known that we are still here and we want to be sprung from our cages and go outside.  The second main one is when Wen has company and hello, why are we upstairs in our cages when we can be downstairs socializing (checking out the visitors)?

It seems that the common denominator is that we want attention when we start howling and we seem to be in our cages.  After all, we Scotties think that we are really special family members and we like to be right in the middle of the action.  Sometimes, in order to get what we want, we first have to be noticed, so we have to strike up the chorus!

Yes, we were howling….

Happy Halloween 2018

Happy Halloween from all of us Scotties!  We put on our costumes and only had one little glitch.  The ladybug costume that Wen bought for Molly was too small, so she traded costumes with Sadie and became a banana, while Sadie fit into the smaller ladybug costume just fine.

Sunny modeled her doctor outfit like a pro and I didn’t mind my nifty astronaut helmet at all. With the visor up, my whole muzzle stuck out the front of it, but that was no surprise, since we Scotties are known for our long snoots!

Have fun, all of you trick or treaters and have a safe and happy Halloween!

Dr. Sunny.

Ghosts!!

Last night, Wen turned off the lights and all of a sudden, there were colorful ghosts everywhere!  We Scotties didn’t know exactly what to think of the ghosts that were flying around the room, but we were immediately there to check out the strange phenomenon.

Where did these ghastly ghosts cone from?  They seemed to disappear as soon as Wen unplugged a light.  Aha!  They were a ghostly Halloween decoration for our front yard and since Wen waits until the last minute to put out our skeletons and Jack-o-lanterns, let the decorating begin!

Pillow, Pillow

Pillow, pillow, who’s got the pillows?  Well, I’ll tell you, it’s the girls, not me.  My three Scottie sisters are always hogging the plush throw pillows while I’m on lying on the floor.  I guess that I’m going to have to be faster or I’ll continue to be on my spot on the floor while they’re napping in comfort.

Those girls!  They sure like their pillows!  The joke’s on them though, because I’m the one who jumps up on the couch when Wen is sitting there and snuggles up next to her.  In my opinion, a person beats a pillow any day!

The Girls

Gettin’ Ready

The costumes are coming out of the closet and we’re gettin’ ready for Halloween.  Wen has been trying different outfits on us Scotties and she has even dressed up Sadie for her last couple of nursing home visits to entertain the residents.

A few days before Halloween, Wen will decorate the front yard with dog skeletons, jack-o-lanterns and a light that that projects ghosts onto our garage door.  By then, she will have selected our costumes and filled the huge candy bowl for the trick or treaters.

Gettin’ ready for Halloween is fun!  Before we know it, all the spooky decorations will be up and it will be time for trick or treating!

Fall is Falling

Fall is falling in our backyard.  That means that the huge leaves from our neighbor’s tree and our two big trees have decided to give it up and fall on the ground.  That also means a leaf pile obstacle course in our yard that we Scotties like to race around and disturb.  Wen may be raking like crazy, but we like to run through those neat piles of leaves, which makes more work for her and doesn’t exactly put us on the good dog list!  Those piles of leaves are just too tempting for us though, so we are running around and getting lots of mischievous exercise until Wen has had enough and she chases us inside.

All of that fun with the falling leaves gives us a good excuse for a snooze on the couch, especially if that pesky squirrel is out there running across the top of the fence for us to chase.  Not only is fall falling outside, but we Scotties are falling asleep inside after a great session of squirrel chasing and playing in the leaves.  Keep falling, fall!

Too much fall fun has us falling asleep.
