Scotties Will Be Scotties!

Years ago, after Wen lost her first wheaten Scottie to liver disease, she looked for another wheaten puppy.  Duffy, her young male Scottie definitely needed another Scottie to play with.

There weren’t many wheaten Scottie puppies available those days, but after several months, Wen discovered a litter outside of St. Louis and she brought a teeny tiny female home whom she named “Corky.”

Duffy was a gentleman Scottie and even though little Corky was a pistol, the two immediately got along fine and they loved to play.  Duffy liked the squeaky puppy toys that Wen bought for Corky and he would snatch them up and run around the house.  Corky would chase him until she could latch onto the toy he had and they would play tug of war, which was funny, since Duffy was so much larger than Corky.  Being a Scottie though, Corky was tenacious and she would not give up until Duffy would eventually let her have the toy.  She may have been a little bitty puppy, but Scotties will be Scotties and she was just lucky that Duffy was easy going and he’d let her have her way!

Super Bowl Sunday

We like football at our house and Super Bowl Sunday is always a big deal.  It’s been three years since our favorite team, the Denver Broncos, played (and won) the Super Bowl, but every Super Bowl is entertaining and it’s fun to enjoy the game, the halftime show, the commercials, and stuff ourselves!  Besides, even when your favorite team didn’t even make the play-offs, you can still pick one of the two teams to root for and have a great time on Super Bowl Sunday!

Bring on the action!

I’m a serious fan.

Crunchin’ Ice and Makin’ Tracks

Part of the country is freezing from the below zero wind chills of the current polar vortex.  We, on the other hand, are soaking up the sunshine as we Scotties explore our backyard drifts from our recent snowstorm.  My sisters are obsessed with finding little chunks of ice to chew on while I like to plow new paths around the yard.  In other words, they’re busy crunchin’ ice while I’m makin’ tracks!

Wheaten White Out

Once again the weather forecasters underestimated.  They said that we would get an inch or so of snow this morning and we have a blizzard.  When the wind picked up, we had white out conditions in our backyard and we wheaten Scotties couldn’t even be seen across the yard.  Wen called it a wheaten white out!

It was actually not fun to be outside with the snow blowing in our faces, so we quickly made u-turns to be let back inside.  My sister, Sadie, had the right idea though to camp out in front of the fireplace while the wheaten white out continues.  Better to be toasty warm inside!

The Doggie Drift Escape

Yep, it snowed again.  We seem to be in a pattern of a few sunny days, a snow storm, and then a few more sunny days until the next snowstorm.  Our backyard has been a Colorado winter wonderland playground for us Scotties and we’ve been having a blast!

Years ago, when Wen and her husband first moved to Denver, they had three dogs and a nice big backyard for them to run around.  It was around Christmas when they arrived, so naturally, they got to experience a typical Colorado winter with plenty of snow.  Since they had previously lived in Texas, the snow was quite a new experience for the dogs and they loved scampering round their backyard, plowing through the snow drifts and making trails.

One snowstorm left a particularly huge dumping of snow in the area–so much that the snow drifts were as high as the four foot fences in all the neighborhood yards.  Wen didn’t realize that the dogs could walk over the drifts into their neighbor’s yard until she called the dogs to come back into the house one time and all three were missing!  A little panic set in until she looked over the fence and spotted the dogs in the backyard next door.  The neighbor’s house sat a bit downhill from theirs and the dogs could walk right over the fence into the next yard, but they couldn’t get back uphill over the fence into their own yard, so they were stuck!

Fortunately, Wen was able to rescue the dogs and then she set out to shovel the drifts by the fence that had provided their escape route.  Soon the backyard was secure again and the dogs had to be content with exploring their own property, which was just fine with them.  There was never another snowstorm of that magnitude while they lived there, but every time it snowed, Wen certainly kept an eye out for another doggie drift escape!

A Giant Snow Cone

We Scotties have had a bonanza of licking opportunities lately.  With all of the snowstorms that have passed through, our backyard hasn’t had the chance to completely thaw out, so it’s basically been a giant snow cone for us.  We all love to lick the fresh snow so much that it’s a wonder we haven frozen our tongues!

Doing What We Do Best

We had a computer glitch yesterday.  All of a sudden we had no Internet connection.  Yep, our wireless network had disappeared.  Wen, of course, tried everything she could think of to fix the situation and after nothing worked, she diagnosed the problem as the router and off she went to buy a new one.

Later, as she was installing the new router, the four of us Scotties showed up to watch what was going on, because we like doing what we do best:  hanging out with our favorite person and offering our moral support!

I don’t want to brag, but we must be a good luck charm, because in no time at all, the new router was working, Wen was back on the Internet, and we Scotties were back to doing another thing we do best:  lounging on the couch!
