It’s Sunny in the Bed!

Since we got our dog bed during the holidays, it has been a very popular addition to our living room decor.  Sadie and I have spent many hours snoozing in the bed in front of the fireplace and even Molly has taken a few naps, curled up in it.  Sunny, however, has not paid any attention to the dog bed the entire time that we have had it.  She has totally ignored it, choosing instead to lie on the couch, a pillow, or the rug.

Actually, since the weather has turned warmer, all of us Scotties have pretty much ignored the dog bed, so Wen was going to put it away until next fall.  That was until Sunny walked over to it, curled up in it, and took a nice long snooze.  Wen was so surprised to see Sunny in the bed that she took a picture of her.  If thirteen year old Sunny is going to use the bed, it’s a sure bet that at least for now, the dog bed stays put!

Grass Repair

Who’s responsible for the holes in our backyard?  Yep, you guessed it–we Scotties!  Over the winter, we did some digging and we pulled up dead grass in random spots all over the yard.  We can’t seem to help ourselves because we’re terriers and terriers are earth dogs, so it’s in our instinct to be diggers.

Unfortunately, we create extra yard work and frustration for Wen, who has to repair our damage to the grass.  She has been busy putting down sod, dirt, and grass seed on the scenes of our crimes while we Scotties keep her company and watch her work.  Sometimes, she wears a hat while she does yard work, so I thought that I’d wear one too for grass repair moral support.  After all, it’s the least I could do!

The First Butterfly

It must be spring, because we Scotties saw a butterfly and it was a big one!  Okay, it was our sister, Molly, wearing a butterfly headband, which she typically does every spring, but she was definitely the first butterfly that any of us have seen.  The grass is green, the daffodils are blooming, the trees are leafing out, and we’ve seen a butterfly.  Yep, it’s officially spring!

An Almost Heart Attack

When we were at Colorado Tartan Days to work in the Rocky Mountain Scottie Rescue booth, I almost gave Wen a heart attack!  She had just gotten me out of my crate and she had me on a leash, standing next to her while she was getting my sister, Sadie, out of her crate and I jerked my head, slipped out of my collar, and made a run for it!

I ran like the wind out of the Scottie Rescue tent and around the back side of several other tents, noticing that Wen and several other Scottie club members were chasing me. Did I stop?  Heck no, I kept on running with Wen hot on my heels until something made me pause to sniff at the corner of a tent and Wen made a flying leap to grab me.  She scooped me up and carried me back to the Scottie Rescue tent and all of a sudden I was back in my crate, probably so I could take a few minutes to think about what I had just done.  Meanwhile, Wen got Sadie out of her crate and had her on a table to meet and greet the people who stopped to visit with the club members’ Scotties.

After awhile, I was meeting and greeting people too, but Wen had a firm grasp on my collar, just in case I decided to make another break for freedom.  I guess that she didn’t appreciate my almost giving her a heart attack and in case you are wondering, I was a perfect angel the rest of the tine we spent at the festival.  No more almost heart attacks!

I really am a good boy!

Colorado Tartan Days 2019

Yesterday, Wen took Sadie and me to the Colorado Tartan Days festival in Longmont, Colorado.  Our friend and her Scottie, Angus, went with us and we all worked in the Rocky Mountain Scottie Rescue booth for several hours.  The weather had been iffy and we had snow at our house, but the sun was out in Longmont and it was much warmer there, so the festival drew lots of people to come see the Scottish clans, vendors, and enjoy the entertainment.

As per usual, we Scotties sat on a table in our booth and greeted the people as they came by to see us.  We got lots of pets and enjoyed having our ears and backs scratched and all the extra attention we received.  It’s fun being doggie ambassadors for our breed and all of the donations we received will benefit the rescue Scotties.  Hopefully, the warmer weather today will draw even more people to the festival and the Scotties there will be a big hit, like we were yesterday!

New Toy Frenzy

We had a flurry of activity at our house last night.  Wen dropped a new toy onto the floor and all four of us Scotties came running.  The toy was a big plush Tootsie Roll and speedy little Sadie grabbed it first and took out running.  The rest of us were right behind her as she led us on a merry high speed chase around the living room with the Tootsie Roll in her mouth.  Who would have thought that a giant-sized Tootsie Roll would have been such a desirable new toy that it created a frenzy as we Scotties all tried to steal it away from each other until Wen took it and put it up on the kitchen counter before things got too serious.  Maybe she should have bought us four Tootsie Rolls instead of just one.  I guess she’ll never learn….

One More Time!

Here in Colorado, you can never really trust that winter is over.  Just when you are enjoying almost eighty degree weather, look out, because that spring snowstorm will sneak up on you.

That’s exactly what happened to us this week.  It was warm and people were wearing shorts and sandals and the next day, it started to rain, which quickly turned into snow.  We Scotties were enjoying our digging adventures in our backyard one day and the next, we’re back to plowing paths through the snow.  It’s as if someone yelled “Come on, winter, one more time!”  We all know that it could actually be multiple times though and as long as we get those warm days in between, we will survive until true spring shows up.  Until then, it’s digging, plowing, digging, plowing!

Warning Flags

It’s that time of year when little yellow warning flags pop up in yards and grassy areas.  These flags warn that pesticide has recently been applied and it’s especially important to keep children and dogs off newly sprayed areas.  The flags are usually marked with the date of application by the company, so when you see these flags, heed the warning. Better to be safe than sorry!  (Isn’t it ironic that the dog image on the flags is a Scottie, since exposure to lawn chemicals has been shown to exacerbate a genetic predisposition in Scotties for developing bladder cancer.  Coincidence?  Maybe not!)

Crashed on the Couch

We Scotties were playing in our backyard this afternoon and enjoying the perfect spring weather.  Wen was busy putting down new landscaping bark and as she hauled bag after bag to the fenced in area and spread the bark around, we took the time to supervise her hard work.  She kept an eye on us though, because we like to chew on pieces of bark and then eat them, which is not a great idea, since too much bark could cause a G.I. obstruction, requiring surgery.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop us from our bark chewing obsession though, so Wen has to make sure to keep us honest.

After the yard work was finished, we all went inside and it wasn’t too long until we four Scotties had crashed on the couch.  All that cruising and supervising takes it out of you!
