Enjoy It As Long As It Lasts!

Nobody loves grooming day more than Wen.  Every day, she brushes our teeth and our haircoats, but on grooming day, she gives us Scotties a super good brushing and then loads us into the car for our trip to go see Gigi, our groomer.

Why does Wen love grooming day so much?  She works extra hard to get us in good condition to go get groomed and then we have a 45 minute drive to Gigi’s Groom and Board where she drops us off for several hours.  Since it’s kind of far from home, Wen has to kill the time until she picks us up, so she usually goes hiking and geocaching until she gets a text to come and pick us up.  Then, we have another 45 minute drive home, so basically, every grooming day is a long one.  Yet, Wen looks forward to each and every grooming day.  Why?  Because when she picks us up, we are squeaky clean, we look gorgeous, and we smell like doggie perfume.  For a little while, we are good-looking dogs and Wen knows to enjoy it as long as it lasts!  After all, we Scotties like to dig in the dirt, eat nasty stuff, play in the mud, and roll in stink out in the yard and our perfectly groomed haircoats and sweet-smelling doggie perfume only last so long!

We were good doggies at the groomer, so how about a treat?!

Happy Birthday, Sadie!

It’s not only Memorial Day today, it’s Sadie’s birthday!  It’s hard to believe that she is four years old already, because it seems as though she was just a little puppy.  Happy Birthday, Sadie and many more!  Hope you enjoy all your toys and treats!

Memorial Day 2019

On Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who served in the military to keep us safe.  Have a happy and safe holiday, everybody!

Holiday Weekend

Here it is, Memorial Day weekend and it’s the beginning of vacation season!  Time to get out our snazzy vacation clothes and accessories.  Look out, everybody!  Riley’s ready for an adventure!

Better Than TV!

Wen took Sadie to the nursing home for their weekly visit the other day.  They were visiting with Wen’s good friend in her room, when all of a sudden, Sadie sat straight up on the bed.  She was looking out the window where there was a tree and and a birdhouse on a pole in the yard and when Wen looked to see what Sadie was so interested in, she saw a big squirrel climbing up the birdhouse pole.  There was a container of suet attached to the pole and the squirrel was hanging off the container having a snack.

Sadie was fascinated, as she loved to chase the squirrels as they ran across the top of the fence at home and she was sitting at attention, watching the squirrel twitch his tail as he ate.  It was better than TV!  Sadie was glued to the squirrel’s every move outside the window until he suddenly slid down the pole and disappeared.  It seemed as though the show was over, so she settled back down on the bed until five minutes later when the squirrel reappeared and was climbing back up the pole to get more suet.  Sadie was at full attention for the next squirrel sighting and she wasn’t disappointed!  Watching the squirrel up close was Sadie’s free entertainment for the day and that squirrel with his circus performer agile moves certainly captured her attention!

Quacking Machine

Every once in a while, Wen brings home a toy that really captures our interest.  The particular toy I’m talking about is a plush duck.  Now, you wouldn’t think that a plush duck would be a big deal and so unusual that we Scotties would find it intriguing, but when Wen put the duck on our kitchen counter and all of a sudden it started quacking like crazy, all of us Scotties showed up to check it out.

The duck didn’t quack just once or twice.  No, it quacked a whole conversation that was not only loud, but fascinating!   First of all, we all just stared at the duck and listened, but after a few seconds, we were standing on out tippy toes and jumping up and down to try to grab it.

What a quacking machine!   You got our attention, so you’d better look out!  We Scotties are coming for you!

Yep, it snowed again!

Here we are toward the end of May and it snowed overnight.  While Wen was shoveling the snow off our deck and using a long extension pole to knock the heavy wet snow off tree branches, we Scotties were making tracks around the backyard.  She was working hard and we were having fun exploring.  Yep, it snowed again and it’s almost June!  What the heck is going on?!

The Side Eye

We Scotties have very expressive eyes.  Just like people, we roll our eyes and cast our eyes in different directions.  Our Scottie almond-shaped eyes can open wide or squint and we can give meaningful glances as well as humans can.

The other day, I was sitting on the couch next to Wen and she had the nerve to toss an ice cube to my sister, Sunny, who was sitting on the floor, giving her the “pleading for an ice cube” eyes.  Sunny got an ice cube and I didn’t?  So what did I do?  I gave Wen my best “really?” side eye and I’m pretty sure that she got my drift!  Whoever said that dogs don’t show emotion better think again!

Really?

Popular Sadie

My sister, Sadie, went on her weekly nursing home visit with Wen yesterday.  As per usual, she made herself at home on Wen’s friend’s bed and when one of the nurses came in and sat down next to the bed, Sadie scooched over to be petted and the nurse spent quite awhile scratching her ears and her back.  A little while later, one of the residents came into the room in her wheelchair and Sadie sat up on the bed to greet her.  All of the ladies paid a lot of attention to Sadie and of course, Sadie entertained them by being her cute tail wagging self and she even did her guard dog routine by keeping watch of the people walking down the hall as they passed the room’s open door.  Each time that Sadie spotted someone, she would jump up to attention on the bed and watch them like a hawk and when she couldn’t see the person anymore, she would lie back down on the bed until someone else walked by.  The ladies all agreed that Sadie was doing a good job protecting them!

Each week when Wen and Sadie walk through the nursing home, the residents in their wheelchairs wave and smile at them and when one of them asks to see Sadie, Wen holds her so that they can pet her, which the residents really enjoy.  It seems that little Sadie is becoming quite the popular visitor!

Sunny, the Talking Dog

My sister, Sunny, is what you could call a talking dog.  She is thirteen years old and it seems that the older she gets, the more she talks.

Sunny definitely has a language all her own with her long drawn out vocalizations that sometimes turn into barks, the more insistent she gets.  Usually, she does most of her talking when she wants something or she has the urge to go outside and she will go up to Wen, give her a meaningful look, and begin to talk.  If Wen doesn’t make a move to go fill our food bowls or open the patio door to let her out, Sunny quickly becomes more passionate with her talking and she turns up the volume until she gets some results.

Even though Sunny doesn’t converse with words, she knows how to make her needs known and her talking, in addition to her very expressive face, seems to be working well for her!
