Not only was Wen concerned about Sunny’s health after finding out that she has a large mass on her spleen, but we Scotties realized that sonething was not right. When Sunny came home from the animal clinic, we gathered around her on our deck. We may not totally understand what is going on with Sunny, but the troops are rallying around her and we are there for her. Sunny has always been our big sister and she is our fearless leader.

We received some very sad news yesterday. My sister, Sunny, hadn’t seemed quite like herself a few days ago. She didn’t want to eat and she was lethargic and pale. Wen bought her some canned food and Sunny started eating, but she just seemed off. After talking with our vet, Wen scheduled an appointment to run bloodwork on Sunny and after she examined Sunny and talked with Wen further, Dr. Nina suggested that they first take some x-rays.
Unfortunately, the x-rays showed a large mass on Sunny’s spleen or liver, which would explain her lethargy and anemia. She had suffered a small bleed out from the mass, which had caused her pale color and weakness. After discovering the mass, they ran a blood panel to see how Sunny’s organs were functioning and the results showed some kidney issues and also pointed to the tumor being on Sunny’s spleen, rather than her liver.
Since Sunny is 13 1/2 years old and she has kidney issues, whether she could survive surgery is questionable and even if the mass was successfully removed by a specialist, the survival rate for dogs is only a few months, so after talking with Dr. Nina, Wen realized that putting Sunny through a surgery was not a good option, so she is going to try to give her the best and most normal life that she can and keep her comfortable with medicine to build up her red blood cells and help her with pain when she needs it. We all want our Sunny Bunny to have the best life possible and be with us as long as she can, because we all love her very much and she is the queen of our Scottie crew!

Do we have an episode of Hoarders here? It looks as though my sister, Sadie, has hoarded all of our chew toys! Actually, what happened was that Wen gathered up the toys when she was cleaning the floor and put them all in one place. Then, Sadie came along and laid down right in the middle of them. Looks can be deceiving, but then again, Sadie laid there for the longest time as though she was queen of the toys!

Since we Scotties have big heads with long noses, we are constantly finding new objects on which to rest our muzzles. I personally like to rest my head on Sadie’s back when we are lying on the couch or prop my nose on the arm of the couch or a throw pillow. Sometimes, we even scrunch up our plush crate pads so that we can rest our heads comfortably or we have been known to lie on the floor with our heads resting on a plush toy or a shoe. Today, however, I tried something new. I rested my head on the side table next to the couch as I was lying on the couch. After all, a Scottie’s gotta do what a Scottie’s gotta do in order to take a snooze, but in this case, was it really very comfortable? Not so much!

This isn’t working!
When I was a little, I was one of seven puppies in our litter. There were always plenty of brothers and sisters around to play with. Then, when I was ten weeks old and I flew on a plane to Denver to meet my new family, I had a big brother, Kirby, and my big sister, Sunny, to show me the ropes here. Now, my three Scottie sisters make sure that things are never dull around our house and if they weren’t around, things would be a lot less entertaining! It’s nice to have a Scottie family to hang out with. I have always had brothers and sisters and I’m not sure what I would do without the rest of the crew!

Here it is, the end of August and everybody’s back in school. How did summer vacation go by so quickly and back to school time roll around again? It’s okay though, because no matter how old you are, it never hurts to learn something new, because knowledge is power. (I heard that on TV!)

Even though we are best buds, Molly and I pretty much do our own thing. After all, we ARE independent Scotties! Every once in awhile though, it is evident that we are besties. This morning, we sat on the stairs together for the longest time, which was unusual, but it proves my point: we are best buds!

Yesterday was National Dog Day and Wen wished me a happy day. Then it suddenly hit me: Wait! I’m a DOG???!!!

Even though we Scotties receive a thorough brushing out of our haircoats every morning, whether we need it or not, there’s one of us who always needs it. No matter how well Wen brushes her hair, by the next day, Sadie has crazy hair again! Go figure!

Crazy hair, don’t care!
