Blowing in the Wind

The winds are really blowing this morning, yet they don’t deter Molly from her post.  There she is, sitting on the deck on squirrel patrol, her beard blowing in the wind.  The chances are very slim that a squirrel would try to run across the top of our fence with heavy winds, but Molly is there watching just in case.  Nothing keeps an intrepid squirrel patrol Scottie from her duty!

Another One Bites the Dust!

This morning, Wen was cleaning under the couch with the dust mop and out popped a squeaky donut toy!  Sadie and I both dived for it, but I grabbed the toy and ran outside with it.  By the time that I brought the donut toy back inside, it had been thoroughly chewed on and half the donut was flat.  Then, Sadie had a turn with the donut and in a matter of seconds, she had chewed the plush covering so much that little pieces of fuzz were all over the living room rug.  Wen spotted the fuzz and the partially flat-looking toy and immediately threw it in the trash.  Since flat meant that part of the plastic lining with the squeaker was missing, she made a quick search of the area until she located the intact piece of plastic on the deck.  No one had chewed up the plastic or even worse, eaten it, so she was very relieved, but as for the squeaky donut toy, another one bites the dust!

Paws Up!

Last night, there was some serious crafting activity going on in our kitchen.  Wen had decided to get out the light up vampire dog Halloween decoration that she found at Target and give him a new look.  First, she made his cape much more elaborate and then she made some eyebrows for him, so that he looked more like a Scottie.  Of course, Molly, Sadie, and I had to check out the dog after she had finished and he got a paws up from all three of us!

Meant to Be

Back in 2006, after reserving the one available female wheaten Scottie puppy from an out of state litter, Wen and her friend set out on an an adventure to meet the breeder and check out the puppy.  When they arrived at their meeting place, the breeder had set up an exercise pen and there were TWO wheaten puppies!  Evidently, the person who had spoken for the second puppy had changed his mind at the last minute and chosen a black pup, so Wen had a dilemma:  how to choose between two adorable puppies?

Since she had chosen the name “Sunny” for her next puppy, Wen decided to stand outside the pen and call “Sunny” to see if the puppies would come running.  The puppy that she had reserved just sat there, while the other puppy ran right over to her, so she put the friendly puppy back by her sister and tried again.  “Sunny,” she called and once again, the friendly puppy ran over while her puppy just stared and didn’t move.  After much deliberation and after repeating this process several times, Wen realized that the friendly puppy not only readily answered to “Sunny,” but that she was meant to be her puppy, so they left her evidently shy sister (which was heart-bteaking, since she sadly watched them leave) and Wen brought her Sunny home.

Wen will miss Sunny forever, but every sunny day will be a reminder of the tenacious little Scottie who knew her name and was meant to be her Sunny.

A Little Humor

This week has been really difficult for Wen and us Scotties, but we’re still here and kickin’!  Watching our dear Sunny struggling was very sad and losing her was devastating for all of us and it’s not felt right since without her.

Such sad times are tough to endure and we needed a little humor to get us through, so it was time to BUSta move.  Get it?  BUSta move!  (Sunny would have loved it!)

We Love You, Sunny Bunny….

Our family suffered a very sad loss yesterday.   An insidious splenic mass took the life of our big sister, Sunny, and Molly, Sadie, and I are sort of lost without her.  Sunny has always been there for us and she has literally been our fearless leader and our queen of Scots.  We love you, Sunny Bunny and you’ll always be in our hearts. God bless you for being such a special part of our lives….

Basket Time

The annual Scottie club auction benefiting Rocky Mountain Scottie Rescue is coming up next month.  Wen decided that it was time to get busy and organize her donations, so she went out and found some baskets to hold all of the Scottie-themed items.  She has been doing this for years and we Scotties are always nosing around during the basket organizing process, because there are all kinds of interesting odds and ends piled up for us to investigate.

This year, we watched as she created five baskets, chock full of Scottie stuff that will hopefully entice the auction bidders to donate lots of money for the care of the rescue dogs. What started out as a chaotic assortment of Scottie things turned into five fun baskets in a matter of a couple days and once again, basket time was free entertainment for four pairs of curious Scottie eyes!

Friday the 13th

It’s Friday the 13th, so if you’re superstitious, lay low!  This day’s reputation is so bad that fear of it is called a big long word:  triskaidekaphobia.  Tonight though, we will have something special to look forward to that is not so scary:  a full moon.  They said on the news that the last Friday the 13th full moon happened in 2000 and the next one won’t happen for 30 years, so we Scotties will be out in the backyard tonight to catch a glimpse of that big old full moon.  Maybe we’ll even howl!  Aroooooo!!

Okay, calm down, Sadie!

What’s Going On Out There?

Sunny may not be feeling her best, but she is still interested in what’s going on outside in our backyard.  With the cooler fall weather we’ve been having lately, she likes to spend time sitting on the deck, watching for squirrels and birds and sometimes, she peeks outside through the patio door blinds to see what the rest of us Scotties are up to out there.

These days, Sunny is not feeling very energetic, due to her anemia, but it hasn’t seemed to affect her terrier instincts, because she wants to know if there’s anything interesting going on and she still keeps watch over the yard.
