Morning Routine

It seems that I have a morning routine.  Every morning, I like to jump up on the couch next to Wen and get my back scratched.  I love to snuggle up and get a good backscratch. It’s a perfect way to start the day!

Then, I give her the look–the one that says “so….what are we going to do today?”  I pretty much stare at her until I get some kind of response.  It’s my Riley way of getting attention….and it works!

So….what are we going to do today?

We’re Out of Milk-Bones?

Sometimes we Scotties receive disappointing news.  For example, if Wen holds up our treat jar, shakes it, and it doesn’t rattle with the sweet sound of Milk-Bones, we consider that extremely disappointing news and we Scotties are not fond of disappointing news, especially concerning our treat supply.  A treat jar with no treats for us treat hounds is bad news and it’s time for a trip to the store!

Molly: What do you mean, we’re out of Milk-Bones? Are you kidding me?

The Evening Concert

Last night, we Scotties attended a concert and we didn’t even have to leave our living room.  Wen sat down at the piano with a stack of music and she played for hours.  Every time that she plays, we Scotties prove that we are music lovers, because one by one, we jump up on the couch, settle in, and stay for the entire concert.  (Okay, we may not be there when she first sits down at the piano, but once we hear the music, we always show up and stay until she finishes playing.)

We were polite attendees at the evening concert and we didn’t howl one time the entire time that Wen played.  Of course, we didn’t exactly applaud when she finished, but we do show our doggie appreciation just by being there each time that she plays the piano and she can tell that we enjoy the music.  How lucky are we to have concerts right in our living room?!

High Wind Warning

Yesterday was one of those days.  I’m talking about one of those days where the winds are so strong that when we Scotties are out in our yard, our beards, our eyebrows, and our haircoats are blowing all over the place and even if Wen has already brushed us out, by the time that we come back inside, we look as though we’ve been through a hurricane.

My sister, Molly, is the pretty one of us Scotties, but on high wind warning days like yesterday with gale force winds, even she looked as though she had been through the ringer. Don’t worry, Molly.  A session with the slicker brush will have us all looking back to normal!

Bye bye! Welcome Back!

This morning, Wen put away the last of our Christmas decorations.  Basically, that meant taking down the Christmas tree.  We Scotties supervised as she removed the ornaments and put them back in their boxes.  Then, she took apart the sparkly tree, wrapped it in bubble wrap, and wrestled it back into its box.

There was some excitement when two of the glass ornaments fell from the tree and shattered on the floor.  Wen made very sure that we nosy Scotties kept our distance while she swept up the sharp little pieces, so that none of us could hoover them up.  Then, she swept and swept to get the glitter from the tree off the floor.  Before we knew it, the tree was back in its spot in the garage and the boxes of ornaments were stacked in the basement closet with the rest of the holiday decorations.

The space the Christmas tree occupied by the fireplace always looks bare after the tree is taken down, but all is not lost.  Wen moved the spiral tree (which also has lights) back next to the fireplace and since it is there the rest of the year when it’s not the holidays, we still have a tree in that spot.  Bye bye, Christmas tree! Welcome back, spiral tree!  It’s not quite the same, but a tree’s a tree!

Persistence Paid Off!

We Scotties got a nice surprise today.  Wen came home with a brand new dog bed to put by the fireplace in our living room.  The new bed is a replacement for our Scottie print dog bed that we only get to use for the holidays so that we don’t wear it out.  It took her several shopping trips to find us a replacement bed, because Wen wanted one the same size as our Scottie print bed, so two of us can fit on it at once and she wasn’t having any luck–until today.  She actually found the exact dog bed that she was looking for:  the identical size with the same plush lining in colors that match the living room.  As a bonus, the bed was made by the same company that made the Scottie print bed, so how perfect a find was that?!  Lucky for us, Wen’s shopping persistence finally paid off, because when it’s wintertime, we Scotties do love to curl up on our bed by the fireplace!
