I’m Ready!!

I’m ready for a holiday weekend!  Bring on the squirrels, let’s dig some holes, bring on the balls and Frisbees, let’s help with the yard work by chasing the spray from the hose, and hopefully, there will be some yummy smells coming from the grill.  We don’t know what we’re going to do yet, but whatever it is, I’m ready!!

Contemplation

Sometimes you can find my sister, Sadie, sitting on the deck by herself.  These moments are few and far between, because Sadie is an active Scottie who likes to zoom around and get into everything.  Occasionally, though, there she’ll be, sitting at the top of the steps.

Whenever she sees Sadie on the deck, just sitting there, Wen says that she looks as if she is deep in contemplation.  You can almost see the wheels turning in her brain as she sits  there thinking.  The only problem is that when Sadie is thinking, she is most likely plotting her next move, which  undoubtedly means getting into mischief, so look out!

The Daily Squirrel Patrol

Early every morning, we Scotties are at our post.  We are very diligent in trying to spot that dastardly devil, the squirrel who runs across the top of our fence.  It’s not as if we can actually do anything about him, because every time that we run or bark at him, he either jumps up high in in tree or he scurries across the fence to the neighbors’ yards. That doesn’t mean that we will stop watching for him anytime soon though, because we guard against intruders in our yard and that darn squirrel is definitely an intruder!

Meant to Be!

My sister, Molly, may have had a puppy photo that was so cute that Wen had to contact her breeder to inquire about her, but she was not the only one.  My puppy picture on the Internet was also so intriguing that Wen contacted my breeder in Ohio to see if I was still available.  My photo wasn’t adorable like Molly’s, but instead, my photo showed my serious puppy face, which Wen thought was so unusual, that she had to find out about me.  I think that she thought I had the most serious puppy expression she had ever seen, so I must have had real character (or I must have been a real character), so she wanted to ask all sorts of questions about my personality to see if I could possibly be her next puppy.

Fortunately, for me, Wen seeing my photo was the reason I got a permanent home and her seeing Molly’s photo had the same result three months later, so thank goodness for puppy photos–or maybe some things are just meant to be!

THE Photo

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  Well, in this case, a picture was responsible for Wen getting my sister, Molly.   Several years ago when Wen inquired about available female wheaten Scottie puppies in a litter, the breeder emailed photos of the girls and when Wen saw this photo, she immediately wanted to check out this cute spunky puppy.

Of all the photos, this one was THE photo that inspired Wen to make a trip out of state to see the puppies and after meeting the three little females, the puppy in this photo was truly the one who captured Wen’s heart.  Not only had she taken a great picture that had revealed her personality, but in person, she was even better!  During the trip back home, the little puppy was named “Molly MacDuff” and Sunny and I had a new little sister.  I guess the picture that was worth a thousand words actually sold Wen on meeting Molly and it also ended up being worth big bucks!

The Intruder

We have a constant intruder in our backyard.  This intruder taunts us Scotties practically every day as he runs across the top of our fence and he jumps from tree to tree and hops from limb to limb like a skilled acrobat.  Yep, he’s a squirrel and he chatters at us and flicks his tail, which drives us crazy.  We would love it if he had a misstep and we had a chance to grab him, but it’s doubtful that will ever happen, because the section of the fence where he runs back and forth and the trees he jumps up into are in a portion of the yard that is a giant landscaped area of bushes and plants that is fenced off from us Scotties.  That doesn’t deter us from keeping track of that pesky squirrel though and we will continue to watch that little intruder and hope for the day that he falls into our territory.

There he is!

There he goes!

Unexpected Treats

Every once in a while, we Scotties get lucky.  It doesn’t happen very often, but at times we have discovered tasty treats that have inadvertantly been left on surfaces that are within reach of our grabbing Scottie jaws.

Since we are so food-driven, we always seem to notice anything that has been placed on the coffee table or the side tables next to the couch, but we have also been known to jump up on chairs to nab something off the dining table or jump up on the bench on the deck when we spot something interesting there.

My sister, Sadie, thinks that she can counter surf in the kitchen when she notices food near the edge of the counter, even though no matter how high she jumps, she isn’t quite tall enough to grab whatever is there.  That doesn’t stop her from continually trying, however!

I suppose we have a “you snooze, you lose” attitude though, because if there’s any kind of food that is unattended within Scottie range, we’ll be right there to check it out and score an unexpected treat–unless we get caught!

Ooh, is that a smoothie?!

All Decked Out

Now that Wen has finished painting our deck, we Scotties can come and go to the backyard as we please again.  We were restricted to the house during the painting process while the paint was drying, but now that the project has been completed, we can enjoy the nice spring weather on the deck.  As a matter of fact, I can now get all decked out with my new shades and sit in the sunshine on the newly painted deck!

It’s Cinco de Mayo!

Today is Cinco de Mayo and there’s usually a lot of celebrating happening in Denver over Cinco de Mayo weekend.  This year though, the festivities were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, so everybody will have to get creative and do any celebrating at home.  Happy Cinco de Mayo!  Let’s be safe and celebrate at home!
