Spa Scotties

Two days ago, the temperature was in the 90’s and today, it is cold and raining at our house and snowing up in the mountains.  We Scotties don’t let a little rain deter us from our early morning backyard cruising and by the time we came back in the house, we were soggy Scotties.  This prompted Wen to get out the towels she uses to dry us after our baths  and she wrapped us up as if we had been to a fancy spa—just before she troweled us off.  Yeah, we looked like fancy spa Scotties for a minute and then we got a vigorous drying off!

Did somebody have fun in the rain?

Are you ready to get dried off?

A Half Hour of Doggie Entertainment

Somebody went shopping the day after my birthday and brought me a new toy.  I really like toys that have plastic bottles inside because they make crunching sounds when you bite down on them and this was exactly what the new toy was!

A few seconds after Wen gave me the toy, I grabbed it and was off by myself to have a good chewfest.  Of course, Molly and Sadie were immediately on the spot when they heard the crunching sounds and after awhile, when I had chewed through the toy, Molly  escaped with the squeaker and Sadie was chomping on the plush cover, while I chewed on the bottle.

After a half hour, the three of us had successfully destroyed the pieces of the toy to the extent that Wen noticed some telltale tufts of stuffing on the floor and she quickly confiscated all the pieces so we wouldn’t swallow anything.  The poor toy had only lasted a half hour, due to our powerful Scottie jaws, but it was a half hour of doggie entertainment!

Happy Birthday to Me!!

So it’s my 7th birthday today!  Yep, evidently, seven years flew right by since I was a baby puppy and now here we are, celebrating the big number seven.  All of us are having a good day playing with my birthday present toys and snarfing up extra special treats, because we share everything and we all benefit when one of us has a birthday.

Happy birthday to me and thanks for all the good wishes!

Siblings

Honestly, I don’t know what I’d do if I were an only dog.  I’ve always lived with other Scotties and I can’t imagine not having the company of my siblings.

When I first arrived on the scene, Kirby and Sunny were there to greet me and show me the ropes.  Then, three months later when Kirby lost his valiant battle with bladder cancer, it wasn’t long before we made the road trip to bring little Molly puppy home.  Since she and I were only three weeks apart in age, we immediately bonded and it was fun romping around with my little sister, Molly, as we grew up together.

It was nice having our sister, Sunny, to watch over us for many years because she was seven years older than us and she was kind of like having our own doggie mom.  When little Sadie came along five years ago, Sunny showed her the ropes too and we were a tight little family of four Scotties until last September, when Sunny suddenly became very ill and we lost her because of a splenic tumor, which left me with my two sisters, Molly and Sadie.

We may be independent Scotties, but we hang together, we play together, and we have a friendly competition for toys and treats.  I’ve had siblings my whole life and without my sisters, I would be at a loss, not only for buddies, but for free entertainment!

Small but Mighty

We Scotties may be short in stature, but we’re known as big dogs in a small body.  We bark like ferocious guard dogs, have huge teeth, and have feisty fearless personalities. It’s no wonder that we like to spend our time guarding our backyard from irritating varmints, like that squirrel who loves to taunt us.  My sister, Molly, always has an eye on him and if he ever makes a misstep while running across our fence, he will end up just like the bunnies who made the unfortunate decision to visit our backyard and ended up as hors d’oeuvres for our sister, Sunny (also known as the Terminator).

We small but mighty Scotties don’t like irritating varmints in our territory and Molly is our chief lookout.  Remember that, varmints!  Molly’s eyes are on you!  One false move and it’s snack time!

Molly, the lookout

Teethbrushing

Evidently, Wen is on a mission to make sure we Scotties never need a dental cleaning.  Every morning, after we eat and right before she brushes our haircoats, one by one, she brushes our teeth.  I’m not kidding, EVERY morning we go through the same routine.  We congregate in the bedroom and then we get out teeth thoroughly brushed.

Fortunately, we are used to the procedure, because Wen has brushed our teeth since we were little puppies and we’re so used to it that we are all very cooperative.  We just sit there while she goes to town with the brushing so that we all have nice pretty white teeth.

I suppose the daily brushing is a necessary evil and it seems to save us from needing dental cleanings under anesthesia, so in that regard, we are lucky dogs to have someone who is diligent with our oral care.  It may not be thrilling, but bring on the toothbrushes!

Time for teethbrushing….

Hats

I heard that the right accessory can make your look.  I don’t really know anything about that, but evidently, Wen seems to think that we Scotties look stylin’ in hats.  Personally, I’m not sure.  I think that maybe the jury is still out on that!

Early Morning Cruisin’

Every morning, we Scotties can be found cruisin’ our backyard as soon as we get up.  Our early morning cruise sessions happen each day, no matter what time of the year, because we are out there to do our business, but sometimes, like right now, the early mornings are nice and cool, the air is fresh, and everything is green, so the conditions are perfect and Wen practically has to coax us to come back inside.  This is one of the times of the year when we really enjoy cruisin’ our yard:  not rainy or snowy, not blazing hot or freezing cold, not too windy, but just right!

Yummy Smells

We Scotties love the yummy smells that come from our kitchen, especially those early morning bacon smells!  Every time that Wen cooks breakfast, you can find our noses up in the air, taking in those mouth-watering smells.  We know that we have zero chance of eating people food, but nothing can stop us from living vicariously through those yummy smells.  Pass the dog treats, please!

The nose knows bacon!
