Wen took Sadie to the nursing home for their weekly visit the other day. They were visiting with Wen’s good friend in her room, when all of a sudden, Sadie sat straight up on the bed. She was looking out the window where there was a tree and and a birdhouse on a pole in the yard and when Wen looked to see what Sadie was so interested in, she saw a big squirrel climbing up the birdhouse pole. There was a container of suet attached to the pole and the squirrel was hanging off the container having a snack.
Sadie was fascinated, as she loved to chase the squirrels as they ran across the top of the fence at home and she was sitting at attention, watching the squirrel twitch his tail as he ate. It was better than TV! Sadie was glued to the squirrel’s every move outside the window until he suddenly slid down the pole and disappeared. It seemed as though the show was over, so she settled back down on the bed until five minutes later when the squirrel reappeared and was climbing back up the pole to get more suet. Sadie was at full attention for the next squirrel sighting and she wasn’t disappointed! Watching the squirrel up close was Sadie’s free entertainment for the day and that squirrel with his circus performer agile moves certainly captured her attention!
