The Five Second Rule

One thing about us Scotties and our big antenna ears—we have supersonic hearing.  We can hear a piece of food or a wrapper hit the kitchen floor from the next room and be there in a flash to try to grab it.  When we hear the refrigerator door or the pantry door open, we are immediately on alert and run into the kitchen as fast as we can, because you never know when a tasty morsel could drop onto the Scottie clean up zone, also known as the floor.

If you think about it, we are just trying to adhere to the five second rule.  If a piece of food hits the floor and you snarf it up within five seconds, it’s not yet contaminated, so thank goodness for our antenna ears, or we would miss out on a lot of goodies!  (Okay, let’s be honest:  if we found a piece of food on the floor that had been there for days, we’d probably still eat it, because as you know, dogs will be dogs!)

Molly: What was that??
